While the seasons change, November’s Mourning full moon marks the beginning of the end. This year, it is the very last full moon before the winter solstice, which makes it a moon of mourning. In many different cultures, November’s full moon is intimately connected with death and loss, on both a literal and symbolic level. The Celts called it the Reed Moon, due to the mournful lullaby made by wind instruments and was thought to be the sounds of spirits making pilgrimage to the Underworld.
